I co-curated Cosmos Cinema at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai in 2023–24, as part of the curatorial team led by Anton Vidokle. The exhibition examined how understandings of the cosmos inform life on Earth, from systems of belief and political organization to conceptions of time, mortality, and human possibility.

Cinema supplied a method for organizing the exhibition. Drawing in part on Alexander Kluge’s reflections on the cosmos as cinema, we worked with montage, sequence, light, and sound to establish relationships among works across media and historical periods. Visitors’ movement through the galleries introduced changing perspectives and associations, giving the exhibition a cinematic structure.

Astronomical observation, spiritual traditions, and utopian thought met within this structure. Historical and contemporary works, together with an accompanying film program, explored how art reorganizes perceptions of space and time and reconsiders humanity’s place within a universe exceeding the scale of individual experience.
