LUKAS BRASISKIS

I am Curator of Video and Film at e-flux in New York, where I program and moderate screenings, lectures and discussions for e-flux Screening Room and for the e-flux Film online platform, and where I edit e-flux Film Notes, a weekly publication on the intersections of contemporary art and cinema.

I was Artistic Director of the 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale with Anton Vidokle and Hallie Ayres, and co-curator of the 14th Shanghai Biennale, Cosmos Cinema. I have curated film programs and exhibitions for the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius, Anthology Film Archives, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Tramway in Glasgow, the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, and the Seoul Museum of Art, among others.

I hold a PhD in Cinema Studies from New York University, completed in 2022, and I have taught courses on moving-image art since 2017 at NYU, Columbia University, and Brooklyn College, CUNY. My writing appears in academic books and journals and in magazines including Frieze, Art Agenda, Senses of Cinema and e-flux Journal. I co-edited Cinema and the Environment in Eastern Europe (Berghahn Books, 2023) and Jonas Mekas: Camera Was Always Running (Yale University Press, 2022).

I began curating in Vilnius, where I programmed for Meno Avilys and co-founded the Next Festival. My work follows the changing relationship between contemporary art and cinema, across curating, editing and writing.
